What is GaN? Why use it?

Gallium nitride (GaN) is a material increasingly used in charger semiconductors. It was first used in LED manufacturing in the 1990s and is also a common material in satellite solar cell arrays. The biggest advantage of using GaN in chargers is its lower heat generation. Less heat generation means components can be placed closer together, allowing chargers to be smaller than ever before, while still retaining all charging functionality and meeting safety standards.
